2. HEAR SONGS ON OUR WEBSITE!
If you click on the "CDs/Cassettes" link at www.realaudio.com, if I understand correctly. (no technical wizard here, as many of you know) For those of you making this attempt, we really will appreciate knowing whether or not you're successful. Good luck, let us hear from you, and thanks!
3. CHRISTMAS SPECIAL ON CDs AND CASSETTES
Because of the holidays we are making this once-in-a-lifetime offer (okay, okay, once a year): If you purchase one or more Lee Domann cd's or cassettes for someone you love as Christmas gifts(actually, you don't even have to love them), you, and they, will feel very SPECIAL. Lame. I know. But sincerely, friends, we like to think music is a good option in gift-giving. We'll appreciate your keeping us in mind. Order by phone at 615-258-2952; by U.S. mail at 123 S. 11th Street, Nashville, TN 37206; or, preferably, by e-mailing from the "order form" link at our website.
4. LEE'S OP-ED COLUMN
The recent controversy surrounding the presidential election has made it's way into our house, too. Opinions run strong at 123 S. 11th in Nashville, as it probably does in your home. My "higher self" wants me to be centered in a spiritual space of tolerance, compassion, patience, understanding, peace, but with a persistent quest for justice. That's what I understand Jesus to be about. That's what I understand John Wesley to have been about. I invite you to join me in re-reading (or, reading for the first time) two of his sermons which I believe to be pertinent to our present situation: "The Catholic Spirit" and "Caution Against Bigotry." In the meantime, I offer the lyrics to a song I wrote sixteen years ago based on those sermons. I pray they reach beyond sentimentality, naivite, and overall wimpiness.
If Your Heart Is Right With Me
c, 1984 Renovation Music/Tonepet Music (BMI)
Why should we build fences, you and I
And be self-righteous, and keep on choosin' sides
Surely we can find a common ground
And help each other lay our burdens down
And
If your heart is right with me as my heart is with you
Take my hand and walk with me, we'll see each other through
Some things that you say are things I don't believe
But can't we somehow agree to disagree
Why should what we think keep us apart
When the truth we seek is in our hearts.
repeat chorus
5. THIS MONTH'S READING
THE RUN, by Stuart Woods. This is a story of a guy who runs for U.S. President. In the end, the election is too close to call. Gimme a break. I'm arbitrarily reading this in November, 2000?? Synchronicity, I think Dr. Jung called it. That phenomena that indicates there are no accidents in life. As Richard Cohen of The Washington Post has said, "Nowadays, only fiction can do justice to the truth." Amen.
THE COMMANDERS, by Bob Woodward. The author of ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN takes a look at the people making the decisions during the U.S. invasion of Panama in 1989 and the Persian Gulf War. The people he interviews and reports on include George Bush, Sr.; Brent Scowcroft; Colin Powell, Dick Cheney, James Baker, III; Norman Schwarzkopf; and others. Very enlightening, but not always comforting. Woodward says, "The decision to go to war is one that defines a nation, both to the world and, perhaps more importantly, to itself. There is no more serious business for a national government, no more accurate measure of national leadership." This comment, of course, applies to all political parties in all times and in all places.
6. FAVORITE QUOTE OF THE MONTH
"Grace is too unpredictable, too lavish, too delicious for us to stay sober about it. What can you do with such unchecked generosity but smack your lips, slosh it around your tongue, and savor it with joy."
-- Lewis Smedes
And with that, Norma and I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving holiday!
