The big news here: Norma and I have moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. As many of you know, she had been here several months for her health, and I arrived in mid-November. I will continue to travel, play music, and write.
Please note our new address and phone number:

I'll also be spending significant time in Nashville in the coming year to maintain family and professional ties. So, to Nashville friends: keep the porch light on!

2. HIGHWAY HEROES -- Rahim Alhaj
It's the ones who believe that keep the rest of us goin' -- "The Ones Who Believe"
There is a fellow musician living here in Albuquerque whom I have not met, but I already consider him a highway hero. His name is Rahim Alhaj and I read about him last week in an article written by Kay June-Friesen in the November issue of the Smithsonian magazine. He is a master of the oud, a stringed instrument that some trace to the beginning of Mesopotamian civilization 5,000 years ago. He came to this country as a political refugee in 2000. As a young man, he was imprisoned for opposing the Saddam Hussein regime. He was a writer of protest songs. During his incarceration he was beaten and says he hid his hands to avoid their injury. When he visited Iraq in 2004 he found the Institute of Music in Baghdad, his alma mater, burned to the ground. "There is no music anymore in Iraq," he says.
He currently performs throughout the U.S. and says he wants to show that not all Arabs are terrorists with "weird beards." His new album, WHEN THE SOUL IS SETTLED: MUSIC OF IRAQ, is a collection of Iraqi maqams, or "suites."
He hopes he may have the option of someday living in Iraq again. The oud he plays was made by a childhood friend. Artwork on the instrument includes two homing pigeons. The two boys once raised the birds in Baghdad. "I learned from them," says Alhaj. "Send them thousands of miles, but one day, they will come back."

3. YOUR VERY LATE / EARLY CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
...and I mean EARLY Christmas, '07 shopping
If you think music MIGHT HAVE BEEN a good gift for someone this past year (or even you're looking for that special Ground Hog's Day gift in February!), I invite you to check the "Music Store" link at http://www.leedomann.com.
You may recall that the new album, "Old Songs, New Wine Skins" is now available. It's a 16-song compilation of songs from my three cassette albums, plus the "bonus" track, "There's A God...And You Ain't It."
Also, the educational video, "Through The Eyes of Howard Gray," is now available only in DVD format. You can order the DVD alone or with the study guide. DVD alone: $18 plus shipping; Video and study guide: $25 plus shipping.
Thanks!
