"HOWARD GRAY" UPDATE (Bunnys and Birthdays)
1. Howard and the Energizer Bunny...
...like the famous battery rabbitt, Howard's story continues to flower and benefit others. For the first time ever, Howard and I appeared at schools together earlier this year. We were at Underwood and Meadow Lane Elementary Schools in Lee's Summit, MO in January. Then in April, we went to Eisenhower Elementary at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. In between I had a solo appearance at two Catholic schools in Jefferson City, MO -- St. Francis Xavier and St. Joseph.
It was a tremendous feeling to visit with the children with Howard giving his perspective. His presence is so powerful. The kids love him and he loves them back. A highlight is when they ask him for autographs. We hope to be at a couple of schools in Topeka, KS later in the year.
2. Howard Turns 60...
On July 17 Howard will be 60 years of age. I thought it might be cool if those of us who feel moved to do so would give him a kind of birthday card "shower." If you you'd like to do that, here's his address:
Howard Ray, Jr.
520 N.E. Sardou
Topeka, KS 66608
Howard's father, Howard Ray, Sr., died last week and so this would be an especially good time to send our love and support. Thanks in advance to any of you who participate in this.
WEBSITE RECONSTRUCTION
We are pleased to announce that we've reconstructed the website at http://www.leedomann.com with the help of Master Webmaster, Sterling Musician and Good Friend, Jack Sundrud (check him out at http://www.jacksundrud.com).
The homepage now provides immediate links to an expanded list of venues I will be playing in the days ahead.
In addition to Churches, of course, we now list Folk Venues, Home Concerts, and Schools. I especially will appreciate those of you who might be interested in hosting a house concert to look at that link. It's a much more intimate setting and is fun for everyone.
Another feature is a much more complete history of the Howard Gray story. I think a lot of the questions many of you have had about Howard will be answered there.
SUNLIGHT OF THE SPIRIT AND MY FRIEND, GRACIE
Some of you will remember Gracie Vandiver's name. She is one of the "angels" who helped me and Norma so much over a year ago in the days following my heart surgery. She sent you updates, etc. She is also the founder of something I strongly believe in, and I want to share it with you:
On January 1, 2006, Gracie launched Sunlight of the Spirit Music (http://www.sunlightofthespirit.com), an internet store exclusively selling CDs from artists in recovery - - all kinds of CDs and all kinds of recovery.
Her goal is to offer only the highest quality music that's been created by kindred spirits in recovery. In the beginning there were 18 artists; The store has grown over the past 18 months and there are now 63 artists represented in the store.
One of the things that makes Sunlight of the Spirit Music so special is that they also offer CDs in a category called "12 Step / Recovery Music."
According to Gracie, "Recovery Music is a category of music encompassing all genres, in which the lyrics often contain a spiritual message or share experience, strength, and hope from alcoholism and other addictions. Songs on 12 step and recovery music CDs offer lyrical glimpses of what it was like (before sobriety), what happened, and what it's like now."
In addition to prayer and meditation, recovery music is a wonderful addition to any spiritual toolkit. The lyrics are often soothing and remind us that there is hope, which is not only helpful to recovering alcoholics, but also for family members and friends - because alcoholism has a ripple effect. That's why it's so often referred to as a family disease.
Besides offering music for sale, Sunlight of the Spirit Music sponsors a free podcast called "The Sober Cafe Podcast." The Sober Café Podcast offers music from artists in recovery. The show also offers rare interviews with artists, sharing their experience, strength, hope, and some great tunes.
Yours truly recently had the honor of being interviewed on the Sober Cafe Podcast. You can hear the interview by visiting http://sobercafepodcast.com.
And all four of my CDs are now available in Sunlight of the Spirit Music's store at http://www.sunlightofthespirit.com.
If you find this information to be helpful, please forward it to a friend or loved one. All of the artists in the store are truly making a difference in the world by staying sober and sharing their gifts with the universe.
Thanks, Gracie.
